WAC Women wallop competition

Roy Lucas rugby tournament

The WAC women’s rugby team nabbed first place in Portland at the Oregon Rugby Sports Union’s annual Roy Lucas 7s rugby tournament this past weekend. They kicked off the tournament with a close match against ORSU’s A-side, winning by a converted kick (2 points). Next up were the Berkeley All Blues from California. The WAC’s on-field communication and chemistry proved to be too much for the All Blues. Berkeley and the WAC met again in the final match, with the WAC taking home the championship and increasing the score margin in the rematch.

The tournament was a great way for new players to get time on the pitch. Key performers for the WAC were Nikkie Kenyon, Sydnee Watanabe, Jenny Johnson, Erica Legaspi, and Christa Banks.

This makes back-to-back Roy Lucas championships for the women, who won in 2019, as well.

The WAC men also participated in the ORSU Roy Lucas 7s rugby tourney this past weekend, taking home third.
